BHA/BHT is a white or yellowish waxy solid.
Uses: an antioxidant used to preserve fats. Often used to preserve food, but also found in cosmetics. It slows the rate other substances oxidate - delays deterioration.
Found in: lipsticks, eye shadows, facial moisturizer/treatments, lip liners, mascaras, anti-aging creams, skin fading/lighteners, foundations, lip glosses, and eye liners.
Effects: Acute: can induce an allergic reaction in the skin or lungs, Chronic: possible human carcinogen, liver effects, bio accumulative (it builds up faster than it can be eliminated in the body), suspected endocrine disruptor.
